A newspaper article this week mentioned that, on average, a driver can expect to encounter a tyre puncture once every five years.

I don’t know about you, but I can only recall one puncture in my 25+ years of driving.

So what?

1 – Be careful with averages. They can be misleading*.

2 – Be mindful of the source of any figures or statistics**.

 

* Think about it this way – Whenever a billionaire walks into a room, everyone else in the room immediately becomes a multi-millionaire (on average).

** In this case, the article was written by someone who worked for a roadside assistance company.
