When we think about IT security in the real world, we naturally focus on confidentiality.

More specifically, we usually focus on protecting the confidentiality of our stuff from ‘bad people’.

However, in “Security Land” (where it is MANDATORY for every important concept to be represented by a three-letter acronym), ‘security’ is represented by the CIA Triad model.

“CIA” translates to:

  • Confidentiality,
  • Integrity, and
  • Availability

So what?

Security isn’t just about keeping stuff confidential.

It’s also about keeping stuff accurate and available.
